Terminal Information – Departing

This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.

Etihad, Emirates,  Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, Swiss and Finnair flights depart from Terminal 1. Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines fly from Terminal 2, while British Airways and KLM leave from Terminal 3. All of the terminals have free Wi-Fi for up to one hour, and each has its own Escape Lounge: entry prices start at £19.99* per person.  It's a great place to relax away from the hustle and bustle, and as well as a comfy place to sit you can also enjoy unlimited Wi-Fi and a complimentary selection of snacks and drinks.

Terminal 1 arguably has the best selection of shops and places to eat. In addition to airport favourites like Boots, WHSmith and Biza Duty Free, the departure lounge also has a few high street fashion names like Fat Face and Boux Avenue. Bar MCR does a fantastic range of tapas and cocktails, while the Grain Loft has booths where you can plug in your iPod and rock out to your own tunes. The other two terminals are a little more functional, but still offer everything you need for a chilled-out pre-flight experience. Australia is outside the EU, so remember to make the most of your duty free allowance.

It's also possible to find cheaper public transport at Skygate, which you can reach using the T-Bus.

Practical Information

You need a valid passport and a visa to travel to Australia. Your passport only needs to be valid for the duration of your stay, but do check the regulations for the country you have a layover in: some require six months additional validity. You can apply for an e-Visa online at the Department of Immigration & Border Protection. For other types of visa, speak to the Australian High Commission in London. Leave plenty of time: in some circumstances you might be asked to undergo a health check before the visa is granted. On arrival you might be asked to show evidence that you have enough money to support yourself during your stay, and to show your onward travel ticket.
