Terminal Information – Departing
Pakistan International Airlines use Terminal 3. There's a huge range of places to eat in the terminal, ranging from sandwich shops (Bite, Eat, Pret a Manger and LEON) to places where you can sit down and enjoy a proper meal (Caviar House & Prunier Seafood Bar, Oriel Brasserie, Rhubarb and Strada). If you need a drink to steady your nerves you can pop into gastropub The Three Bells for a seasonal cocktail, or one of the more relaxed bars (The Globe, Bridge Bar) for a pint. Shopaholics will love window-shopping in the terminal's designer stores. These include British favourites like Burberry, Jack Wills, and Harrods. There are plenty of high street labels too, if you'd rather keep your spending money for Lahore. Remember you can indulge in tax free shopping, as you're leaving the European Union. There are two executive lounges in Terminal 3, one by Servisair and another by No.1 Traveller. No.1 Traveller also has bedrooms in this terminal, perfect if you need a few hours of shut-eye before catching your flight.
Terminal Information – Arriving
The airport is about half an hour away from the city. You can either take a taxi, take a shuttle, or hire a car. Some of the airport taxis are unmetered: we recommend setting a price with the driver before getting in. You should expect to pay anywhere from 600* to 800* rupees (about £4 to £5.50). Some hotels in the city offer an airport pick-up service. Check with your accommodation to find out if they do, and how much they offer it for.
We recommend getting to the airport at least two hours before your flight's scheduled departure time. You need a visa to travel to Pakistan on a British passport. Your passport must have at least six months validity when you apply for your visa.
What to expect in Lahore
Lahore is five hours ahead of London and the currency is the Pakistani rupee. Lahore is a lot cheaper than London. You can enjoy a two course meal in a standard restaurant for less than £9*, and a pint of local beer for around £1.70*. Taxis are cheaper too, and only charge 26p* per km (compared to £2.35* in London). Lahore has warm temperatures all year round. The coldest month is January, when the average temperature drops to 14°C. If you visit in June you can expect an average temperature of 32°C. July and September are the wettest months, so pack an umbrella if that's when you're planning to go.
