Terminal Information – Departing

KLM and Flybe flights depart from Terminal 3, while easyJet flights depart from Terminal 1. Both terminals offer up to one hour of free Wi-Fi for all passengers, and both have an Aspire Lounge. Lounge access costs £19.99 per person and includes complementary snacks, drinks, and unlimited Wi-Fi. It’s a great option if you enjoy a bit of peace of quiet before you fly.

The departure lounge in Terminal 1 is modern, with plenty of high street shops and great eateries. Enjoy French and Moroccan fusion at Cafe Balzar, have a healthy salad at Giraffe, or simply relax with a Panini and a coffee at Starbucks. If you feel like shopping you can pick up some great bargains at Fat Face, Monsoon, and Biza Duty Free.

Terminal 3 has fewer shops than Terminal 1, but still has plenty to keep you entertained. There’s a Dixons Travel for your tech needs, a Biza Duty Free for last minute gifts, and a WHSmith if you need some light reading for the plane. There are two coffee shops, a sandwich bar, and a pizzeria if you fancy a refreshment.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Amsterdam Schiphol is a sprawling airport. The numerous arrival terminals spill out into the central arrivals area, Schiphol Plaza. From here you can just follow the signs to the taxi rank, train station or bus stop and make your way into Amsterdam. The train is the quickest way into the city, and costs about €3.90 (about £2.78) for a single ticket. If you would prefer to take a taxi you can expect to pay €40-50 (about £28.50-35.60).

Practical Information

You need a valid passport to travel from the UK to Amsterdam. Make sure your passport won’t expire during your trip: if this is the case you might not be allowed to board the aeroplane.

We recommend giving yourself plenty of time at the airport, so try not to arrive any later than one hour before your flight is due to depart. Arrive earlier than this if you have luggage to check in. You should also factor in extra time for security if you’re flying at the weekend or during the school holidays.
