This information is correct as of August 2015

Airlines that fly from London to Newcastle

Three airlines currently fly this route: British Airways from London Heathrow, and Flybe and Loganair from London Stansted.

Terminal Information – Departing

British Airways flights depart from Heathrow's swanky Terminal 5. If you find yourself with some time to kill before your flight to Newcastle you can enjoy some luxury shopping at the likes of Prada, Harrods, and Louis Vuitton. If you're feeling peckish you can choose between trendy eateries like Giraffe and Wagamama or go upscale at celebrity restaurants Carluccio's and Gordon Ramsay's Plane Food. There are five lounges too, some of which are exclusive to business and first class travellers. There's also an Elemis Spa, perfect for releasing a bit of pressure before you fly.

Stansted Airport only has one terminal but it has plenty of shops and restaurants to keep you distracted. There's a Hamley's for the kids, The Body Shop for beauty buffs, and a World Duty Free for those last minute souvenirs. In terms of food you can grab a burger at Giraffe, some sushi at Itsu, or something a little more high end at James Martin Kitchen. There's even a Wetherspoons if you fancy a tipple before your flight to Newcastle. Remember to take it easy, as flight crew have the right to turn away passengers who have had a little too much to drink.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Newcastle Airport has one terminal, which is well connected to the city centre by bus and underground (Metro). It takes 25 minutes to reach Newcastle by Metro, and 55 minutes if you're travelling all the way to Sunderland. Five bus lines serve the airport: X77, X78, X79, 353 and 74. Taxis are also available outside the terminal building: it costs about £15 for a taxi. There are lots of great places to visit near the city, so it's worth considering car hire at Newcastle Airport. Europcar, Hertz, Avis, Budget and Interrent all have desks in the airport. The airport is six miles from the city.

Practical Information

You don't need a passport to travel within the UK, although some form of official photographic ID will be required. We recommend using your photocard driving license.

What to expect in Newcastle

Newcastle is much further north than London, so it's not surprising that the temperature is a fair bit cooler. While locals are notorious for venturing out without jackets, a native Londoner might prefer to pack a few jumpers just in case. Like the temperature, prices in Newcastle are a lot lower than in London. A slap up dinner for two will set you back around £31, while a pint costs less than £3.
