Terminal Information – Departing

Edinburgh Airport has one terminal. You'll find the check-in and bag-drop desks on the ground floor of the building, while security and the departure lounge are upstairs. The departure lounge is modern and spacious, with ample seating and two hours of free Wi-Fi for everyone. There are plenty of places to grab a refreshment: whether you're in the mood for a coffee, some pub grub, or a seafood and champagne dinner. You can enjoy designer shopping in the likes of Kurt Geiger, MAC Cosmetics, Jo Malone and World Duty Free or just pick up some last-minute bits and bobs from Boots and WHSmith. If you're in the mood to treat yourself you can pop into the airport's small spa, or check into one of the two executive lounges (run by Aspire and No.1 Traveller).

Terminal Information – Arriving

Flights from Edinburgh usually land at Terminal 5 or Terminal 2, depending on which airline you fly with. The Arlanda Express Train, which departs from the station underneath the Sky City section of the airport, offers the fastest transit time into downtown Stockholm. Single tickets cost SEK 289* (about £22) and the journey takes about 20 minutes. Local trains are also available, but slower. Alternatively you can take the Air Shuttle bus, which has a stop outside Terminal 5. The bus has an average journey time of 35 minutes, although this is dependent on traffic. While you travel you can occupy yourself with free Wi-Fi, or use the plug sockets to re-charge your devices. Other options are the Flygbussarna and Swebus coaches. They take 40 minutes to reach the city and charge SEK 99* (about £7.55) for a single ticket.

Practical Information

You need a valid passport to fly to Stockholm from Edinburgh. No visas are required, but if you're planning on staying in Sweden for more than three months you will need to get in touch with the Migration Board. We recommend arriving at the airport around two hours before scheduled departure on international flights.

What to expect in Stockholm

Stockholm is one hour ahead of Edinburgh and the currency is the Swedish Krona. Stockholm is famous for its high prices, so take care if you're travelling on a budget. An average three course meal for two will set you back £54*, and you can expect to pay an eye-watering £4.60* for a pint of local beer. Stockholm is slightly hotter than Edinburgh during the summer, with an average temperature of 18°C vs Edinburgh's 15°C, but during the winter Stockholm is around 6°C colder than Edinburgh. Temperatures drop well below freezing, so pack plenty of winter woolies.
