Terminal Information – Departing

Hamad International Airport has an impressive amount of places to shop, eat and relax. If sitting still while waiting to board isn't your cup of tea, you can book into the Vitality Wellbeing & Fitness Centre for QAR 130* (about £24.50). Go for a swim, hit the gym, or treat yourself to a massage. Culture vultures will notice the art exhibitions on display throughout the airport: some of the pieces are for sale through the Qatar Museums store and cafe. As for lounge access, the Oryx Lounge is available to all classes of passenger for a fee of QAR 200* (just over £37.50) while the Al Mourjan Business Lounge is exclusively for business class Qatar Airways passengers.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Arrival terminals are subject to change. This information is simply a guideline.

Qatar Airways usually land at terminal 1, Flydubai land at terminal 2, and Emirates land at terminal 3. Shuttle buses run between the terminals every 20 minutes. Terminals 1 and 3 are within walking distance of each other, however terminal 2 is further away and isn't served by public transport. This is definitely worth bearing in mind when deciding which airline to fly with. The Dubai Metro and public buses both stop in terminal 1, which is the main terminal. Car hire desks are located in terminal 1, and some companies offer a meet and greet service from the airport. Taxis are cheap and plentiful, and a good alternative if don't want to drive in the city. Some hotels in Dubai also offer an airport pick-up service which should be arranged in advance.

Practical Information

We recommend arriving at the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight's departure time. You need a valid passport to fly from Doha to Dubai. Make sure your passport has at least six months validity from your date of entry into the UAE (if you have a residence permit, it only needs to be valid for three months). British citizens get a free 30 day visa upon arrival in Dubai. This can be extended by a further 30 days by visiting an immigration office: there is a fee for this.

What to expect in Dubai

Dubai is one hour ahead of Doha and the currency is the UAE dirham (AED). With its buzzing malls, fantastic nightlife, and packed events calendar there's no doubt that Dubai is a lot livelier than Doha. There are plenty of fun things to see and do, which you can learn more about in our Dubai travel guide. Dubai's climate is similar to Doha, classified as 'tropical desert'. Temperatures get a bit out of control during the summer (52.1°C was recorded in July 2002). November to March is considered the best time to visit, but bear in mind this is also the wettest time of year.
