Public transport at Faro Airport is similar to the rest of the Algarve: practically non-existent. There are two buses serving the airport, lines 14 and 16, which go into the centre of Faro. If you're staying in one of the resorts, the best thing to do is arrange an airport transfer: either with your hotel or with a private company. Car hire is very popular with tourists, as the region is quite rural and there's lots to discover. You should definitely book early, as many rental firms can run out of vehicles during the summer. Remember to compare car hire prices at Faro Airport with Skyscanner.
You need a valid passport to visit Portugal, and it should be valid for the length of your stay in the country. We recommend arriving at the airport no later than 90 minutes before your flight is due to depart.
What to expect in the Algarve
There is no time difference between Portugal and the UK. The currency is the Euro (€), and the language is Portuguese. Don't try to speak Spanish to people: this is highly offensive. Most Portuguese people will be happy to speak with you in English, although learning how to say hello (bom dia), please (por favor) and thank you (obrigado/obrigada) will be much appreciated. Prices in the Algarve are low, and the temperatures are high. Try not to go too over the top with drink deals in Albufeira, and always remember to wear sunscreen.
