Airlines that fly from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore

Air Asia, Jetstar Asia Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Malindo Air, Oman Air, Silk Air, Singapore Airlines, Tigerair and Uzbekistan Airways all fly direct to Singapore from Kuala Lumpur.

Terminal Information – Departing

Malaysia Airlines and Malindo Air fly from the main terminal. Tigerair, Air Asia and Jetstar Asia Airways fly from the new KLIA2 terminal. Oman Air, Silk Air, Singapore Airlines and Uzbekistan Airways fly from the satellite building. Kuala Lumpur International is one of Southeast Asia's most important airports. Like many airports in Southeast Asia is has plenty of little luxuries and quirks: such as a small chunk of rainforest inside the satellite building. Free Wi-Fi is available in every terminal.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Arrival terminals are decided two hours before the flight lands. All of the terminals are connected by the free Skytrain. If you have a long layover at Singapore Airport (five hours or more) you can enjoy a free city tour: there are booths in every terminal. Each terminal also has a Ground Transport Desk, where you can arrange fixed-price shuttles and taxis into the city. Airport shuttles cost $9* (just over £4.50), limousines are $50* (just over £25), four-seater taxis are $55* (just over £28), and seven-seater taxis are $60* (just under £31). Metered cabs are also available from outside the terminal. Expect to pay $20-30* (about £10-15) during the day. There's a 50% surcharge for night time journeys. If you prefer to take public transport you can hop on the train at the MRT station. You need to transfer onto a city-bound train at Tanah Merah. Tickets cost $1.90* (just under £1) but you will need to buy a $1* (about 50p) rechargeable travel card first. Every terminal has a bus station, and tickets cost around $2* (just over £1). Car hire at Singapore Airport is available from Avis, Budget and Hertz.

Practical Information

You won't need a visa for most visits of up to 30 days. You will need a passport with at least six months validity to enter Singapore: even if you're just passing through en route to another destination. You might be asked to show proof of onward transportation, so book your flight from Singapore before arriving.

What to expect in Singapore

Singapore and Kuala Lumpur are in the same time zone. The currency in Singapore is the Singapore dollar. Singapore is a lot more expensive than Kuala Lumpur. Dinner for two is around three times more expensive, while a beer is nearly twice the price. Both destinations have a similar tropical climate. Singapore's wet season lasts from September to February.
