Terminal Information – Arriving
Montreal-Trudeau airport is just over 12 miles from the city centre. Despite this, it can take up to an hour to reach the city centre if your flight arrives during rush hour. Taxis are available from outside the departures hall: there's a fixed rate of CAD $40* (just under £22) to downtown Montreal. Public transport is also available, with the STM Airport Express 747 a popular option. Tickets cost CAD $10* (about £5.50) and this includes 24 hours usage on the STM public transport network. Three-day passes and weekend passes are also available from the ticket machines. Car hire is available from global agencies Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty.
We recommend arriving at the airport at least two hours before your flight is scheduled to depart. You need a valid passport to fly between New York and Montreal. US citizens don't need a visa or an electronic travel authorisation (eTA) to visit Canada. British citizens don't need a visa for short stays, but will need to apply for an eTA. You will need a visa if you're planning to work or study in Canada: if in doubt, speak to the embassy. You may be asked to prove that you have enough funds to support yourself for the duration of your stay (even if you're crashing with friends or family). Bring a print-out of your bank statement, just in case.
