Air Transat flights

Air Transat is a Canadian airline with a big focus on holiday destinations. They currently fly to 63 airports in 30 countries, including 11 countries in Europe. Because their focus is on leisure, most of their flights are seasonal. They offer cheap flights to Canada from the UK, winter flights to the Caribbean and South America, and summertime flights to range of European holiday destinations.

Air Transat has terminated many of its British routes, but still offers direct flights to Toronto from Glasgow, London-Gatwick and Manchester, and seasonally fromBirmingham Airport. They also offer seasonal flights to Vancouver from Glasgow, Manchester and London-Gatwick with additional seasonal flights from London to Montreal and London to Calgary too.

Why fly Air Transat

How to check In

You can check in online between 24 hours and 2 hours before scheduled departure. You can use the self-service kiosk to check in if you're flying from London-Gatwick or Paris-Charles de Gaulle. This is available from 8 hours before scheduled departure up until your flight is due to leave. Check-in at the airport desk isn't available on flights departing from Europe.

Seating

The seat pitch (space between your seat and the one in front) is quite generous in economy on Air Transat's widebody jets, at 32 to 33 inches. Business class passengers can expect 34 to 36 inches of space. Seat reservation is available up until 24 hours before scheduled departure. Prices differ depending on what kind of seat you want to book, and where you're flying. On flights between Europe and Canada, standard seats cost £19 to reserve, two-by-two seats without the dreaded middle seat cost £28, and extra legroom seats cost £52.

Booking fees

Air Transat don't charge any extra fees for booking with credit or debit card, but do warn that the card issuer might levy a fee for foreign transactions. Worth remembering if you book your flight in Canadian dollars rather than British pounds.

Service on board

Seatback touchscreens on A330 aircraft make it easy to browse through on-demand television and film content. The AirTransat CinePlus A app for Airbus A310 and the AirTransat CinePlus B for Boeing 737 let you stream the airline's catalogue of film and television content straight onto your smartphone or tablet, if you'd rather not watch what's playing on the shared screens. You can enjoy dishes from the Bistro! menu free-of-charge on transatlantic flights, with hot dishes including Shanghai noodles, chicken Parmigiana, and beef with red wine sauce. Club Class is the AirTransat Business Class option, and if you book business class flights to Canada you can expect a welcome cocktail (or glass of wine) and your choice of gourmet dish to enjoy on board. You also get a larger luggage allowance to Economy passengers.

Punctuality

The on-time performance of Air Transat flights has dropped. In 2015 they were the most punctual airline on the London to Toronto route, although they were overtaken by Air Canada and British Airways for the 2016 period. Their average delay was 44 minutes, with just 44% of flights departing within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. Although they were the most punctual airline on the London to Vancouver route from 2012 to 2015, they were overtaken by Air Canada and British Airways in 2016 with similar delays to their London to Toronto flights.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Cabin baggage: You can bring one standard bag (23cm x 40cm x 51cm) and one small item such as a handbag on board. This should weigh no more than 10kg, or 15kg if you're flying in Club Class.
