Terminal Information – Arriving
Faro Airport has one terminal. Most people hire a car or book private transfers when they visit the Algarve, as public transport in the region is very limited. You can compare car hire prices at Faro Airport with Skyscanner. Buses 14 and 16 run between the airport and the city of Faro. From Faro you can find buses and trains to other towns in the region, but it's far more convenient to sort-out private transportation. Many of the train stations are distant from the resort they serve and you may need to take a taxi to your accommodation.
You need a valid passport to fly to Faro from Liverpool. Although the airport boasts of having an average security processing time of ten minutes, we recommend aiming to arrive at least two hours before your flight is scheduled to depart.
What to expect in The Algarve
Don't worry about changing the clock on your phone: Portugal is in the same time zone as the UK. The currency is the Euro (€) and the local language is Portuguese. Most people are happy to speak English: just don't attempt to speak Spanish. The Algarve is famous for its beautiful weather, with more than 300 days of sunshine each year. The cloudy days tend to arrive between October and March, but you're just as likely to get sunshine as you are to get clouds. The high-season (June to September) is when the resorts are at their liveliest. The low season is a good time to visit if you're planning on golfing, hiking, or just want a quiet break with pleasant weather.
