Airlines that fly from Southampton to Manchester
Flybe is the only airline providing direct flights from Southampton to Manchester.
There’s just one terminal at Southampton Airport. The airport advises passengers on domestic flights to check-in an hour before their scheduled flight departure time. Online and mobile check in is available from Flybe which means you can go direct to the departures lounge on arrival at the airport.
In the departures lounge, passengers will find a range of facilities. Free Wi-Fi is available for up to four hours with any extra usage available for a fee. There are PC stations where you can get online without a mobile device located both before and after security. For food and drink, there’s Costa Coffee, The Glove Bar & Kitchen and The Olive Tree café bar. Shopping outlets include WHSmith and a duty free store.
Upstairs from the departures lounge, you’ll find the Priority Lounge. This lounge is available to all passengers for a fee, payable on the day or in advance. Priority Lounge guests get complimentary drinks and snacks, unlimited Wi-Fi and a quiet, peaceful place in which to relax before their flight.
Manchester Airport is home to three terminals. Flights from Southampton arrive to Terminal 3. In the arrivals hall you’ll find a WHSmith, a Spar convenience store, a few cafés and an information desk. There’s also a cash machine and internet kiosks.
If you’re travelling into the city centre, you can choose to take either the tram or the train. Trams depart regularly from the airport station and tickets are available from self-service machines on the platform. Passengers travelling into the city centre will need to change trams at Cornbrook station. Trains also depart from the airport and take around 20 minutes to reach the city centre. These services run every day until around 11pm.
Passengers travelling to Manchester suburbs or to other nearby cities, can take either a variety of local bus routes or a National Express coach. Tickets for National Express are available from a ticket desk, located at The Station and open from 7am to 6pm every day.
Taxis are available outside the terminal building at the designated rank. There are usually taxis ready and waiting but if you arrive late at night, you may want to pre-book with one of the companies detailed on the airport website in order to avoid a wait.
A number of car hire companies are based at Manchester Airport. There’s Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, National and Sixt. Car hire offices are located in the Car Rental Village, which is accessed via a free shuttle bus departing from outside the terminal every 10 minutes. If you do choose to hire a car from the airport, you can check Manchester Airport website for up-to-date travel information including details of road closures and congestion. The airport is located close to the M56 motorway.
If you’re a British national, you don’t need to have a passport to travel on flights within the UK. However, you do need to have some form of photographic identification. Each airline dictates the types of identification they are willing to accept so check with Flybe before travelling.
What to Expect in Manchester
