Manchester Airport
When flying to Durham, as your first leg is an international flight you will need to arrive at Manchester Airport at least 2 hours before the scheduled departure time. There are three terminals at the airport and both Flybe and KLM flights to Durham depart from Terminal 3. You can check in at the airport, or online. KLM offer a mobile app which offers mobile check-in and stores your boarding pass which is ideal for those unable to print it. Flybe do not currently have an app but they do offer automatic mobile check-in, where you will be automatically sent an SMS with a link to your boarding pass between 36 and 2 hours before your flight, you need to select this option during booking.
Terminal 3 at Manchester Airport is the smallest of the three terminals and therefore has a more limited selection of shops and restaurants. The shops which you will find here are Boots, WHSmith, a duty free shop, Accessorize, Rolling Luggage and Swatch. If you’re looking for a snack, coffee or meal before your flight you have a great selection available to you which include Trattoria Milano, Pork and Pickle, Lion and The Antelope, Caffe Nero and Upper Crust.
The Additional Bag policy at Manchester Airport gives you the chance to shop at the airport’s shops and take a standard shopping bag on board your flight alongside your hand luggage.
Terminal 3 has a premium lounge, if you wish to upgrade prices start at £21 and include complimentary snack foods, hot, cold and alcoholic drinks and unlimited Wi-Fi access.

Durham Tees Valley Airport
Durham Tees Valley Airport enjoys a convenient location in the north east of England just, 24 miles south of Durham, 10 miles to the south west of Middlesbrough and 7 miles east of Darlington. There is one terminal at the airport and in the arrivals hall you will find a WHSmith and onward travel options.
Durham Tees Valley Airport has its own train station, a short walk from the terminal building. Here you can take Northern Rail services to Darlington, Hartlepool or Middlesbrough where you can then make a connection to Durham, Sunderland or other destinations in the Tees Valley region. It will take approximately an hour to travel from Durham Tees Valley Airport to Durham by train. If you would prefer to travel by bus Arriva services depart from the airport and run to Darlington where you can make your next connection to Durham, a journey will take around 1 hour 30 minutes.
There’s plenty of choice when it comes to car hire with Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, and Enterprise at the airport. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the rank outside of the airport.
