Terminal Information – Departing

Cardiff Airport only has one terminal so it’s easy to find your way around. If you’re feeling hungry or thirsty there are three places where you can fuel up: Caffe Ritazza, Caffi Cwtch, and Echo Bar. The usual shopping suspects are there, with a fantastic duty free store and a WHSmith. There’s also a store selling football and rugby strips from all of the top Welsh teams: the perfect gift or souvenir.

If you really want to unwind before your flight, or if you have a bit of work to do before heading to Edinburgh, book into the Executive Lounge. You can enjoy free Wi-Fi, snacks, and drinks in a relaxing environment. If you pre-book access costs £17.50, usually for a maximum of three hours.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Edinburgh Airport has one terminal. Car hire and other transport options are well signposted from the arrivals area. There are two taxi ranks at the airport; one for private hire cars, the other for black cabs. In terms of public transport you can choose from two buses and the tram. The tram charges £5 for a single ticket, the Airlink charges £4.50, and the 35 charges £1.50. Although the 35 is cheapest, it does take the longest to reach the city centre.

Practical Information

You don’t need your passport to fly to Scotland. You will need some form of photographic ID: your driving license is perfect. We recommend giving yourself plenty of time to reach the airport. Try not to arrive any later than one hour before your flight to Edinburgh is scheduled to depart. Allow yourself extra time if you’re travelling during rush hour or the school holidays, and arrive at least two hours before departure if you’re planning to check in your luggage.

What to expect in Edinburgh

Edinburgh is slightly cheaper than Cardiff, so you can find plenty of excuses to visit the city’s fantastic restaurants, bars and coffee shops. If you’re not interested in splashing too much cash you can always check out these 10 beautiful places to visit in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh is likely to be a few degrees colder than Cardiff, thanks to the brutal North Sea winds. Even if you’re enjoying a heat wave in Wales it’s a good idea to pack some cosy clothes for your trip up north.
