Terminal Information – Departing
This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.
Flights to Melbourne depart from the domestic terminal. Shops in the departure lounge include fashion brands like Victoria's Secret and Oxford Men as well as souvenir shops like Australian Way. Dining options include international options like Rolld Vietnamese and Wasabi Warriors. There's also a Krispy Kreme, where you can enjoy a pre-flight coffee and doughnut. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport: there's a three hour/500mb limit. If you're flying business with Qantas or Virgin Australia you can use the VIP lounges.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Qantas domestic flights usually land at terminal 1, Virgin Australia land at terminal 3, while both Tigerair and Jetstar land at terminal 4. Taxis are the fastest way to reach the city centre, but there's plenty of public transport if you don't want to spend too much money. The Skybus shuttle runs from terminals 1 and 3 to Southern Cross Station and takes about 20 minutes (with stops at major hotels). There's also a Greenbus shuttle but you need to book your ticket in advance. Public Transport Victoria buses also serve the airport, offering the cheapest way to reach the city centre. They're slightly slower so not a good option if you're in a hurry. Car hire from Melbourne Airport is another option, and a great choice for getting out and discovering Victoria's beautiful scenery: particularly the Great Ocean Road.
Practical Information
You don't need a passport on domestic flights, although you might need to show some photographic identification before boarding or when you check in. Australian citizens can use ID cards, but if you're British we recommend using your passport anyway. Aim to arrive at the airport no later than one hour before departure.
