Terminal Information – Departing

This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.

Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the world's busiest in terms of passenger numbers. Flights to New York depart from the domestic terminal. This terminal is split into two sections, north and south: Delta Air Lines is the only carrier which departs from the south. Other airlines may fly from here in certain situations, so always double check your boarding card. There's a large Atrium area between the north and south sections with shops and restaurants, an interfaith chapel and a bank. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport.

Terminal Information – Arriving

At JFK: Delta Air Lines fly to this airport and land at terminal 2. The JFK AirTrain runs from every terminal to Howard Beach Station and Jamaica Street Station where you can transfer onto a train or subway. The MTA NYC bus is another option, or you can hail a yellow cab.

At La Guardia: American Eagle, Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines land at terminal B while Delta Air Lines land at terminals C and D. There's no train station at the airport, but buses are available. You can take these all the way into Manhattan or jump off at a train/subway station.

At Newark: Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and United Express all fly to Newark, which is technically in New Jersey but serves New York City. Delta land in terminal B, but most domestic flights arrive at terminal A. The AirTrain Newark runs from the airport to the Newark Airport Rail Station, where you can hop on a train into Manhattan. New Jersey Transit buses also serve the airport and are cheaper (although slower).

Practical Information

British citizens will need to show their passports before boarding. If you're an American citizen you can use your driving license. We recommend arriving at Atlanta Airport at least 90 minutes before scheduled departure.

What to expect in New York

There's no best time to visit New York: it's a year-round city where there's always something going on. In saying that, winter can be frigidly cold and summer can be stiflingly hot. Autumn and winter are your best bet if you want warm and mild temperatures. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade draws lots of people to the city during November, which does drive prices higher. Hotels in New York tend to be cheapest during spring (March to May).
