Airlines that fly from Tokyo to Osaka

Tokyo has two airports, Narita and Haneda, and both offer flights to Osaka.

From Narita: All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines to Osaka-Itami. Delta Air Lines, Jetstar Japan and Peach to Osaka-Kansai.

From Haneda: All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines fly to Osaka-Itami and Osaka-Kansai. StarFlyer also fly to Kansai.

Terminal Information – Departing

This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.

From Narita: All Nippon and Peach fly from terminal 1 South, Delta Airlines fly from terminal 1 North, Japan Airlines fly from terminal 2 and Jetstar Japan fly from terminal 3. All of the terminals have a wide range of places to eat and shop before you board your flight. There are plenty of places to pamper yourself, including a range of spas and an oxygen bar. Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport.

From Haneda: Japan Airlines fly from terminal 1, which is sometimes nicknamed 'Big Bird'. All Nippon Airways and StarFlyer fly from terminal 2, which has a six storey shopping mall. Wi-Fi is available in the airport.

Terminal Information – Arriving

At Itami: Options for reaching the city from the airport include monorail, limousine bus, and taxi. Limousine buses usually charge around ¥500-600* (about £3.15-£3.80) for a trip into downtown. Taxis are widely available and you should expect to pay about ¥4700* (just under £30) to Osaka Castle.

At Kansai: Two train lines connect the airport to the city: the JR West Kansai Airport Line and the Nankai Electric Railway. There's also a high-speed ferry, which takes half an hour to reach the city. Tickets cost ¥1,850* (just over £11.50). There are bus stops outside both terminals, and you can purchase  tickets from the vending machines before boarding the bus. There's a taxi rank at the airport, and fares to the centre of Osaka are fixed.

Practical Information

Foreigners need to show their passports on domestic flights for security purposes. Japanese nationals can use other government issued ID such as Juki-cards or driving licenses. Always check your airline's website for a full list of acceptable ID on domestic routes. We recommend arriving at the airport at least one hour before your flight is scheduled to depart.

What to expect in Osaka

Osaka is warmer than Tokyo, with an average summer temperature of 29°C and a winter average of 6°C. August is the hottest month to visit, and January is the coolest. It's also wetter than Tokyo, with around 50mm more rain during June (the wettest month for both cities). Prices in Osaka are slightly lower than Tokyo, but only marginally.
