Airlines that fly from San Francisco to Los Angeles

American Airlines, American Eagle, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, United Express and Virgin America all offer direct flights from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

Terminal Information – Departing

This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.

Southwest, American Airlines and Delta all fly from Terminal 1. The departure lounge is small, with only has a few shops: the majority of which are newsagents. There are plenty of places to eat, with some fantastic coffee houses and bistros to choose from.

Virgin America, American Airlines and American Eagle flights depart from Terminal 2. This terminal has a slightly larger range of shops and places to eat. Browse high-street brands such as Mango and Kiehls, or pick up some arty souvenirs in Mosaic. If you're hungry you can choose from Mexican food and burgers as well as healthier deli style food. 

United Express and United Airlines fly from Terminal 3, which is a much larger terminal with an excellent selection of shops and restaurants. There's even a Ghirardelli chocolate shop. The departure lounge features more than 20 places to eat, so there's no need to arrive in LA hungry.

Southwest land at Terminal 1, Virgin America land at Terminal 3, American Airlines and American Eagle land at Terminal 4, Delta flights land at Terminal 5, and United land at Terminal 8. The LAX FlyAway bus calls at every terminal. The bus route includes Downtown Union Station, Hollywood, Santa Monica, Van Nuys and Westwood. One-way tickets are $8* (just over £5.50). You can take Shuttle C to the LAX City Bus Centre to hop on local routes, or Shuttle G to the nearest metro station. Car hire companies are off-site and provide free shuttles. Practical Information

If you're a British Citizen you will need to present your passport, even although the flight is domestic. American citizens can use their driver licenses. We recommend arriving at the airport at least one hour before scheduled departure.

What to expect in Los Angeles

There is no time difference between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The weather in Los Angeles is more pleasant than San Francisco, with an average of 300 sunny days per year. During summer you can expect an average temperature of 22°C (vs 14°C in San Francisco) and in winter the mercury hovers around 13°C (compared to 10°C in San Francisco). Prices in Los Angeles are lower than in San Francisco, especially for dinner and drinks.
