Hotels in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is the epicentre of celebrity culture, but there’s more to the City of Angels than the Hollywood Hills and the Walk of Fame.

With mountains on one side and beaches on the other, Los Angeles is actually an excellent city break destination for nature lovers. You can join the surfers and celebs on the pristine Malibu beaches, or head to the peaceful hiking trails of Topanga Canyon. There are plenty of fun tourist activities to enjoy too: whether you’re unleashing your inner Pretty Woman on Rodeo Drive or snapping photos of Brad and Angelina’s wheelie bin on a celebrity homes tour.

When you’re booking a hotel in Los Angeles, it’s worth hiring a car too. Los Angeles is a sprawling city and it wasn’t designed with pedestrians in mind. There is a public transport system; but it’s not anywhere near what you’d find in most British cities. If you really want to make the most of your trip you’re better off on four wheels: otherwise look for hotels close to the sights that you want to see.

Hotels in Downtown Los Angeles have always been popular with business travellers, but are fast becoming popular with people who are visiting the city for fun. Downtown has become increasingly trendy over the past few years, and is a good place to base yourself if you want to go sightseeing. Things to see include Olvera Street (LA’s old town), the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), and Angel’s Flight: the world’s shortest railway. It’s really a funicular, taking people from Hill Street to California Plaza.

Hotels in West Hollywood are also a good option. Squeezed between two famous neighbourhoods, Beverly Hills and Hollywood, it has plenty to offer in its own right. West Hollywood is where you’ll find Sunset Strip, as well as the paparazzi lined shopping street of Robertson Boulevard. It also has a throbbing nightlife, with plenty of clubs, and is famous for boasting the city’s biggest gay scene.
