Avianca is Colombia’s national airline and flag carrier. Founded in 1919, it is the largest airline in Colombia and the second largest in Latin America. It's the world’s second-oldest airline (KLM is the oldest). In 2016, Condé Nast Traveler rated Avianca is one of the best airlines in the world. It came in 17th position, with Singapore Airlines taking the top spot. Avianca is a Star Alliance member and has been since 2012. With Avianca’s loyalty program, Life Miles, passengers flying with Avianca can earn points that can be used to reduce the cost of future ticket purchases with Avianca or its partner companies.
Avianca's most popular Colombian destinations include Medellin, Cartagena, and Cali. They fly to other destinations in South America including Lima, Quito, Caracas, and Buenos Aires. Avianca's main UK route is London Heathrow to El Dorado International in Bogotá, Colombia. Avianca also offers flights to Bogota from Madrid and Barcelona.

How to check in
You can check in at one of Avianca’s desks the airport, using a self-service kiosks, online, or via mobile. Web and mobile check-in are available from 24 hours before departure. If you have a smartphone, checking in using the Avianca mobile app allows you to download your boarding pass to your phone rather than having to print it off. You can also check in at an Avianca desk at your departure airport. At Heathrow Airport, Avianca operates from Terminal 2.
Avianca now uses a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner for their direct London to Bogota flight, rather than their previous Airbus A330-200. In Economy, the seat pitch (the distance between your seat and the seat in front of you) is 32 inches and seats are 17 inches wide. In Business Class, there's more space with a seat pitch of 72 inches and a seat width of 21 inches. If you have a connecting flight, for example in Spain, there’s a possibility that you’ll be flying on an Airbus A330-200. In Economy, this has a seat pitch of 30-34 inches and a seat with of 17-19 inches. Business class seats have more room with a pitch of 56 inches and a width of 18-21 inches.
There are no separate booking fee for using credit cards. Avianca accepts the following payment methods: VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club, and Discover.
Service on board
Avianca offers in-flight meals and entertainment onboard flights. Their In-flight entertainment system makes it easy to relax and enjoy a movie or listen to music while you're up in the air. Typical in-flight meals include sandwiches, fresh fruit, and a selection of hot meals. If you have any dietary requests, you will need to contact Avianca via one of their call centres a minimum of 24-hours before your flight is due to depart.
