Terminal Information

Manchester Airport

Passengers on flights from Manchester to Istanbul, Turkey should arrive at the airport to check in at least 3 hours before the scheduled departure time of the flight. Check in facilities provided by Turkish Airlines are online check in which needs to be completed from 24 hours to 90 minutes before the flight and check in desks at the airport. Passengers with luggage for the hold will need to locate the bag drop desks in the check in hall and check in their bags. After checking in you will need to proceed to security, you can avoid any queues especially during peak travel periods by upgrading to the Fast Track security lane from £3.50 per person.

Turkish Airlines flights depart from Terminal 1 at Manchester Airport. The terminal is host to a variety of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars to pass the time whilst waiting for your flight. Boots, Next, JD Sports, Biza Duty Free, Paperchase, Bobbi Brown and Jo Malone are just some of the shops in the departures lounge. You also have plenty of options when it comes to food with the likes of The Grain Loft, Bar MCR, Starbucks, Giraffe, Burger King, Mi Casa Burritos and The Pasty Shop.

There is 60 minutes of free Wi-Fi access available in Terminal 1, if you need access beyond this it can be purchased from £10 per day.

Istanbul Ataturk Airport

Istanbul Ataturk is located 20km west of Istanbul city centre. All international flights to Istanbul Ataturk Airport arrive into the International Terminal.

Onward travel options from Istanbul Ataturk Airport are car hire, an airport shuttle service, metro and bus services. The Airport Shuttle runs every 30 minutes from the airport to stops in Istanbul including Aksaray, Bakırköy and Yenikapı. The Ataturk Havalimani metro station is located next to the international terminal, it takes around 35 minutes to reach Yenikapi, Istanbul. A single fare costs 2.15 TL.

Practical Information

British Citizens are required to have a visa to enter Turkey, you can apply online via the official Turkish government website at a cost of $20. Alternatively there are self-service visa machines at Istanbul Ataturk Airport, however it is recommended you apply in advance.

What to expect in Istanbul

Istanbul enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and cool winters. During the summer you should expect high levels of humidity, foggy mornings and very little rainfall.

The currency of Turkey is the Turkish Lira and most aspects of a trip to Istanbul will be significantly cheaper than what you would pay in Manchester.
