Terminal Information – Departing

This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.

easyJet fly to Lisbon from terminal 1. Shops in this terminal include Wonkandy, Relay, Buy Bye duty free, and designer labels Adidas and Superdry. There are plenty of places to grab a drink, whether you fancy a beer (Mahoudrid) or a coffee (Starbucks). There's a good range of places to eat, too. Unfortunately there's no VIP lounge for Schengen passengers in this terminal.

Air Europa, TAP Portugal and Portugalia flights depart from terminal 2. There are few shops in this terminal but they cover the basics (pharmacy, duty free, magazines). Dining options in the departure area include 100 Montaditos and Rodilla. The Puerta de Alcala VIP lounge is available for Schengen and non-Schengen passengers, located in the boarding area.

Iberia and Air Nostrum flights leave from terminal 4. This terminal has a wide range of designer boutiques in addition to shops selling duty free and other little essentials. Dining is just as varied, ranging from quick and cheerful (McDonalds) to a wee bit fancy (Gastrohub). There's one VIP lounge reserved for Schengen passengers, La Revoltosa, in the T4 shopping area.

The city's underground system serves the airport, as do buses. Metro tickets are re-usable and can be topped up like an Oyster card. They can be used throughout your stay on trams, buses, trains, funiculars and the Santa Justa Elevator. Car hire is available from Lisbon Airport- perfect if you want to discover Portugal's best beaches or visit these 8 great places in Portugal.

Practical Information

You don't need a passport to fly between Madrid and Lisbon: both cities are within the Schengen area. British citizens should carry their passports on them at all times, however. Aim to arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before departure.

What to expect in Lisbon

Portugal's capital city is one hour behind Madrid. It's better to speak English than Spanish once you arrive. Spanish and Portuguese are very different languages. Most locals speak a bit of English or French. Lisbon has warmer winters and cooler summers than Madrid. Temperatures rarely dip below 8°C during the winter months, and highs of above 15°C are not unheard of during December and January. Although not as hot as Madrid, temperatures can approach 30°C from June to September so it's still worth packing plenty of sunscreen.
