The JFK Airtrain calls at all eight airport terminals and runs to Howard Beach Station and Jamaica Station. It takes about an hour to reach the city centre using the subway or 45 minutes using the Long Island Railroad. MTA NYC local buses also call at the airport, departing from terminal 5. Note that these are local buses and don't have luggage racks. The New York City Airporter bus goes to Grand Central Terminal and the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Private shuttle companies offer hotel transfers if booked in advance. Taxis are available from the airport: these are fixed rate, with an extra fee for tolls. Car hire from JFK Airport isn't for the faint hearted, but if you've driven in the Big Apple before you should have no trouble.
