Terminal Information - Departing
Aberdeen Airport only has one terminal. Once you’ve passed security you’ll find a good selection of shops including World Duty Free, Boots, and WH Smith. There’s also an art exhibition showcasing local talent. If you fancy a refreshment there are three coffee shops and two restaurants.
Free Wi-Fi is available, perfect if you need to finish off a bit of work before boarding your flight to London. If you need some peace to work, you can book into the Servisair Executive Lounge. BA passengers with fully flexible tickets, and members of the Executive Club, can access the British Airways Terraces Lounge.
Terminal Information - Arriving
If you’re landing at Heathrow you will probably find yourself in Terminal 5. From here you can catch the Heathrow Express or the tube into central London. Flights to Gatwick land in the North Terminal. The National Express and easyBus busses both stop outside this terminal, but if you want to catch the Gatwick Express train you will need to take the inter-terminal shuttle over to the South Terminal. City and Luton only have one terminal each, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding your onward travel.
You don’t need to bring your passport, but you will need to bring an official piece of photographic ID (i.e. your driving license). We recommend arriving at least 90 minutes before your domestic flight is set to depart. Allow extra time if you’re travelling during the summer as the security queue is likely to be longer.
There are printing facilities before security: at £3 for the first three pages it’s a bit steep, but definitely beats being fined for forgetting to print at home. Flybe, easyJet and British Airways all have smartphone apps which you can use to download electronic boarding cards. Much easier than printing, and better for the environment too.
What to expect in London
Remember to hit the cash machine once you arrive, as it’s unlikely you will be able to spend your Scottish banknotes in London. Aberdeen is one of Scotland’s most expensive cities, so you probably won’t see much of a difference in price once you land. In fact you might find that the prices in some bars and restaurants are lower.
London is usually a few degrees warmer than Aberdeen. During June, July and August temperatures can soar well above 25°C, so pop your sunglasses in your hand luggage and consider picking up some sun-tan lotion from Boots in the departure hall.
