SriLankan Airlines is the flag carrying airline of Sri Lanka. The airline has two main hubs, Colombo and Mattala. From Colombo you can reach all of the airline’s destinations throughout South and Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Mattala Airport is a smaller hub, but is the main stopover airport for flights heading to Bangkok, Bejing, Male, Riyadh and Shanghai.
SriLankan Airlines became a member of the oneworld airline alliance in 2014. They offer their own frequent flyer programme, FlySmiLes, which has four tiers corresponding with oneworld membership levels.
They’ve won a range of awards, including ‘Airline of the Year’ in the Sri Lanka Presidential Travel & Tourism Awards for three years running as well as the Best Overall In-Flight Entertainment (small fleet) award from the World Airline Entertainment Association.
Their slogan is “You’re Our World.”
How to Check In
You can check in online from 48 hours to 2 hours before flight departure. You can also check in the old fashioned way at the airport check in desk. Check in desks close one hour before departure, and it’s recommended that passengers arrive at the airport three hours before their flight is scheduled to leave.
Baggage Allowance and Fees
The amount of checked baggage you’re allowed to bring depends on the flight route. Information will be given to you as you book your flights. The maximum weight of any one piece cannot exceed 32kg.
Seating – Leg Room, Choosing Seats
SriLankan Airlines have a fairly standard amount of legroom, with a seat pitch of 32” on both long and short haul flights.
Some government and airport fees apply. These are shown clearly when you book your ticket.
Meals, Snacks, Drinks
Complimentary food and drink services are available in both economy and business class, although business class travellers can pre-order their meal 48 hours before the flight. There’s a good combination of Eastern and Western food served on board, and they also offer a range of specialist meals such as lactose free, low sodium, and vegan.
SriLankan Airlines have an okay punctuality record, with 71% of flights arriving and departing on time.
