Terminal Information – Departing

This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.

easyJet flights depart from the budget terminal (terminal 2). All other airlines fly to Madrid from terminal 1. It's not possible to walk between the two terminals, so if you take a taxi make sure your driver drops you at the right one. The underground goes to terminal 1, so if you're flying with easyJet you will need to hop on the shuttle to terminal 2: give yourself extra time for this. The shuttles call outside the teminal every 15-20 minutes. The two terminals are very different. Terminal 1 has a huge array of shops to browse, and a mini replica of the Mercado Ribeira food market. The selection in terminal 2 is much smaller, but it does have an Ale Hop gift shop, a duty free store and a Burger King.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Madrid Airport is huge, and has excellent public transport connections. It takes about 15 minutes to reach Nuevos Ministerios by metro (line 8) from the airport. Alternatively you can take the express bus 203 (from terminals 1, 2 and 4) which takes about 40 minutes to reach town. If you're going further afield you can take bus 200 to Avenida de America transport hub, or bus 101 to Canillejas transport hub. Always check bus and train timetables (and which stop is nearest your accommodation) before flying. Some airport hotels offer free shuttles to and from the airport. Car hire from Madrid Airport is available: the city is at the centre of Spain's radial road network, so the perfect starting point for a Spanish road trip. There's a taxi rank outside each terminal.

Practical Information

You don't need a passport to fly between Lisbon and Madrid as both cities are within the Schengen zone. We recommend British citizens keep their passport on them at all times anyway, for security purposes. Try to get to the airport at least one hour before your flight is scheduled to depart.
