Czech Airlines offer direct flights from Birmingham to Prague. Numerous airlines offer indirect flights to Prague with one stop. They include Lufthansa (with a stop in Frankfurt), KLM (stopping in Amsterdam), Brussels Airlines (via Brussels), Swiss (via Zurich), Air France (via Paris), Aer Lingus (via Dublin) and Vueling (via Barcelona).

Birmingham Airport has one terminal with plenty to keep you entertained before your flight. Browse a range of high street shops like Boots, JD Sports and Superdry or check out the tax free luxuries in World Duty Free. If you're feeling peckish you can choose from a wide array of restaurants and cafes including Deli Hub by Kebabish, Burger King and Giraffe. Bars include Blanc et Noir champagne bar, Wetherspoon's and All Bar One. If you want to add a bit of luxury to your trip you can enjoy a manicure at Cloud Nails or check into one of the two executive lounges. Prices start at £21.99* per adult.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Flights from the UK land in the non-Schengen terminal, Terminal 1. The airport is about 12 miles away from the city and is well connected by public transport. There is no metro station at the airport, but you can take a bus to the nearest one. Tickets are available from the public transport kiosks inside the terminal, the vending machines beside the bus stops, and the DPP kiosk in the arrivals hall. Tickets work on all public transport and are transferable for up to half an hour, 90 minutes or three days. Remember to validate your ticket before boarding the bus. There's also an airport express bus, which offers a direct service from the airport to Hlavní Nádraží, Masarykovo Nádraží, and Náměstí Republiky in central Prague. Tickets cost CZK 60* (about £1.55) if bought on the day but are cheaper if you buy online. There's also a taxi rank: expect to pay CZK 400-800* (£10-21) for the trip into the city centre. A number of international and local car hire companies operate from the airport, an excellent option if you want to get out of the city and see more of Bohemia.

Practical Information

You need a valid passport to fly to Prague from Birmingham. It needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay. For international flights it's best to arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure.

What to expect in Prague

Prague is one hour ahead of Birmingham and the currency is the Czech Koruna (CZK). Weather during the summer is pleasant and similar to what you would experience at home. Prague is much colder than Birmingham in the winter, however, and you can expect average temperatures of -1°C if you visit in January. Prague is a lot cheaper than Birmingham. You can enjoy a three-course meal for two people for around £15* and in some bars you'll find that beer is cheaper than water.
