Airlines that fly from Alicante to Madrid

Air Europa and Iberia (operated by Air Nostrum) both fly direct from Alicante to Madrid.

Terminal Information – Departing

This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.

Alicante Airport only has one terminal. Shops include a Duty Free store and a Relay newsagents, where you can stock up on in-flight snacks and reading. There's also a fashion store selling clothes from designer brands Armani, Ralph Lauren, Pepe Jeans, Tommy Hilfiger, Hugo Boss and Longchamp. Remember to pay a visit to the candy shop (Sweet) for a last-minute treat. If you're hungry at the airport you can enjoy a quick snack from Burger King, some traditional Spanish fare from Canas y Tapas or just indulge in an ice cream from Farggi. Business class passengers can access the Sala Ifach lounge for free, while economy passengers need to pay. Unlimited free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal building.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Madrid Airport is absolutely massive, but it's not difficult to get into the city. We recommend doing your research before you fly so that you know which bus or train to take. Metro stations are accessible from every terminal. These trains will get you to Nuevos Ministerios station in about 15 minutes. From there you can connect to other Metro lines to reach your final destination. Another option is bus 203, a direct service to Atocha train station. This service takes about 40 minutes and leaves from terminals 1, 2 and 4. Bus line 200 goes to the Avenida de America transport hub while bus 101 goes to Canillejas transport hub. Metered cabs, car hire from Madrid Airport and private shuttle transfers are also available.

Practical Information

Because this is an internal flight you don't need to show your passport. You may be asked for some photographic ID before boarding, so either bring your passport or your driving license. For internal flights it's best to arrive at the airport no later than one hour before departure: ideally 90 minutes beforehand.

What to expect in Madrid

Madrid has a lot more hustle and bustle than Alicante. It is the capital, after all. Temperatures are similar during the summer but a lot cooler in the winter. You can expect an average temperature of 6°C in Madrid during January, a big drop from the 12°C you'll have been getting in Alicante. Bad news if you're on a budget: Madrid is a bit more expensive than Alicante. Expect to pay about €20* more for dinner and 50 cents* more for a beer.
