Aeromexico, Aeromexico Connect, Interjet, Magnicharters, Viva Aerobus and Volaris all fly direct from Mexico City to Cancun.

Terminal Information – Departing

This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.

Aeromexico and Aeromexico Connect flights leave from terminal 2. All other flights to Cancun depart from terminal 1. Terminal 1 is the larger of the two terminals and has a huge selection of shops: selling everything from duty free and souvenirs to designer fashion and the latest gadgets. Dining in terminal 1 is more varied than in terminal 2 as well. If you're peckish you can choose from a wide range of cuisines, from fast food kiosks and restaurants. Alternatively you can grab a quick snack from one of the convenience stores. There are two VIP lounges in terminal 2 (operated by HSBC and American Express). Terminal 1 has numerous airline and credit card sponsored lounges, some of which you can pay to use regardless of airline and cabin class.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Cancun-International Airport is six miles from the 'hotel zone' and nine miles from the city centre. If you want to take a taxi from the airport, it's best to go with one of the authorised companies and avoid the touts. Taxis should be booked from the podium outside the arrivals hall (beside the car park) or pre-booked online. ADO and Riviera buses leave from outside domestic arrivals. They call at the bus station downtown and at the popular resort Playa del Carmen. Many hotels in Cancun offer transfers (either for an added fee or as part of your holiday package). Car hire is available from Cancun Airport: we recommend pre-booking as you need to take a shuttle bus to the car rental centre.

Practical Information

Foreigners require a valid passport to travel on domestic routes within Mexico. You will be asked to show your passport when you check in and immediately before boarding your flight. We recommend arriving at the airport between 90 minutes and one hour before departure.

What to expect in Cancun

Pristine beaches and cocktails galore, Cancun is a dream summer holiday destination. The climate is pleasant all year round and is much warmer than Mexico City. Cancun is at its hottest during summer, when temperatures soar to an average of 28°C. January is the coldest month, but at 23°C we don't think you'll need to pack your woolly jumper. The peak season is from December to April, so if you're planning to visit for Christmas on the beach we recommend booking your hotel in Cancun as early as possible.
