Jet2, Thomas Cook Airlines and Tui all offer direct flights from Manchester to Salzburg.

Terminal Information – Departing

This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.

Jet2 and Thomas Cook Airlines both depart from Terminal 1, while Tui fly from Terminal 2. Terminal 1 is the more modern terminal, with a good range of high street shops in addition to the airport mainstays. Monsoon, Fatface and Boux Avenue all have outposts in Terminal 1. There are plenty of places to grab a refreshment, including The Grain Loft where you can pour your own beer and plug your own iPod into your booth. Bar MCR is great for cocktails and tapas, Starbucks is ideal for a quick coffee, and you can't beat Giraffe for a tasty meal. Terminal 2 has less shops and places to eat, but is perfectly functional and has everything you might need before flying to Salzburg. Both terminals have free Wi-Fi for up to an hour. If you need more internet than that, or if you just enjoy pampering yourself, you can check into the Escape Lounge. There's one in each terminal and entry prices start at £19.99*. Inside you can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere along with a good range of complimentary snacks and drinks. There's also unlimited Wi-Fi, perfect if you need to get a bit of work done before your flight departs.

Terminal Information – Arriving

The airport is a 20 minute bus ride from the city centre. Tickets cost €2.50* (about £1.80). You can buy them at Newscorner in the airport, at the machines beside the bus stop, or direct from the driver. Buses 2, 27 and 10 all serve the city centre. There's a taxi rank outside the terminal where you can find a metered cab. Car hire offices are inside the multi-storey car park: remember to compare car hire at Salzburg Airport if you're planning a self-drive holiday.

You need a valid passport to fly from Manchester to Salzburg. Aim to arrive at the airport about two hours before your scheduled departure time.

What to expect in Salzburg

Salzburg is one hour ahead of Manchester and the currency is the Euro (€). Prices in Salzburg are similar to what you would expect in Manchester, but they may look higher as they're written in Euro. Temperatures are quite extreme, with a summer average of 19°C  and a winter average of -1°C. Pack sensibly based on what time of year you're visiting. Remember to stock up on sunscreen at Boots, even during the winter: the glare from the snow can give you sunburn.
