British Airways is the only airline offering flights from Glasgow to Heathrow. Still, this is Glasgow airport's busiest route. We recommend booking your flights well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Terminal Information – Departing

Glasgow Airport has one terminal. Free Wi-Fi is available for 30 minutes for every passenger. The departure lounge has plenty to keep you occupied, with a wide range of shops and restaurants. All of the airport favourite shops like Boots, WHSmith, and World Duty Free are there: as are some slightly more luxurious high street stores like Victoria's Secret. There's even a Celtic store, in case you need a last-minute football strip. Grab a quick sandwich in EAT or sit down for a slap up meal at Frankie & Benny's: there are 12 places to eat at the airport so you're never short on choice. If the kids are bored, take them to the soft-play area. If you fancy an extra bit of luxury you can book into the UpperDeck lounge.

Terminal Information – Arriving

British Airways flights from Glasgow usually arrive in Terminal 5, the flagship terminal which was opened in 2008. The Piccadilly Line (underground) and Heathrow Express both stop here. It costs £5.70* to reach central London on the tube, or £26.50* on the Express train (£21.50* if you book your ticket in advance). The Heathrow Express goes to Paddington station, and takes just over 15 minutes. By comparison, the tube takes about an hour. National Express and easyBus coaches are also available from the airport. There is a taxi rank outside the airport, and a number of car hire companies inside the terminal. If you're planning on driving yourself into London, remember to compare car hire prices with Skyscanner to find the best price.

Practical Information

You don't need a passport to fly from Glasgow to London, but you will need to show some form of photographic ID: your driving license is fine. Try to arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before departure. We'd recommend arriving earlier if you have luggage to check in or if you're flying during a busy period (first thing in the morning or during school holidays, for example).

What to expect in London

Londoners are famously suspicious of Scottish bank notes. Avoid arguments by withdrawing your cash once you arrive at Heathrow. Prices in London are higher than in Glasgow. London is, on average, 4°C warmer. The weather is usually a lot better during the summer, so bring your sunglasses. If you travel to London a lot it's worth picking up an Oyster card: they costs £5* but save you time at the ticket machine and cap your daily spend on transport.
