Terminal Information – Departing

Edinburgh Airport only has one terminal. It’s undergone quite a bit of expansion over the past few years and now has a good range of shops and eateries to keep you occupied. There’s a small art gallery specialising in work by Scottish artists, a spa where you can get a few mini-treatments, and a champagne and oyster bar. The airport also has two lounges that you can book into if you feel like you need a bit more peace and quiet.

Business travellers will appreciate Edinburgh Airport’s generous Wi-Fi offering, with free internet for all passengers for up to two hours. There are plenty of plug sockets scattered around the departure lounge so you can even plug in and finalise that presentation.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Birmingham Airport only has one terminal, so there’s less confusion on arrival. The free Air-Rail Link shuttle bus takes passengers to Birmingham International Rail Station, where you can get a ticket in to the city for just £3. The express service is a bit more expensive at £7, but is a lot faster as it doesn’t call in at local stations. Alternatively you can take the 900 bus (£2) or a taxi (£22).

Practical Information

You don’t need a passport to fly within the UK, but you will need some official photographic ID: your driving license is fine for this. Many English establishments can be reluctant to accept Scottish bank notes, so visit the ATM when you arrive in Birmingham rather than while you’re in Edinburgh.

You should aim to arrive at the airport 90 minutes before departure time, and no later than an hour before your flight is due to take off. Give yourself extra time if you want to check in some baggage. The queues at airport security can be quite long and slow moving, especially during weekends and school holidays, so it’s worth taking this into consideration too.
