Lufthansa and Air Berlin both provide direct flights from Berlin to Munich. The two airlines both fly from Berlin Tegel Airport.

Terminal Information

Berlin Tegel Airport

Berlin Tegel Airport is the city’s main international airport. It’s located eight kilometres northwest of Berlin city centre. There are five terminals at the airport, all conveniently within the same building. Lufthansa and Air Berlin flights both depart from Terminal A. Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their scheduled flight departure time but, if you’re using online check-in, you may be able to arrive a little later.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal building for up to one hour free of charge. Other facilities in Terminal A include a range of shops selling both travel essentials and luxury items. Before security there’s Marc O’Polo, Esprit and Relay, whilst after security you’ll find Heinemann duty free store, Fabriano Boutique and Hub Convenience.

Those looking to get a drink or a bite to eat before their flight also have a range of options to choose from. There’s fast foot at Burger King, coffee and paninis at Illy, international cuisine at Restaurant Red Baron and soups and snacks at Marché Bistro.

Munich Airport

Munich Airport is located 28 kilometres northeast of Munich city centre. There are two terminals at the airport. Air Berlin flights arrive to Terminal 1 and Lufthansa flights arrive to Terminal 2.

In the arrivals hall at both terminals, there are information desks and cash machines. There’s also a good selection of shops, convenience stores and cafés. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal buildings.

If you’re planning to travel to Munich city centre by public transport, there are a number of options to choose from. Two train routes connect the city and the airport, with trains departing every 10 minutes. The airport station (Flughafen) is a short, well-signposted walk from both Terminals 1 and 2. The bus station is also very close by. Various bus routes depart from the airport, with some companies offering a shuttle to Munich city centre and others providing longer journeys to neighbouring cities.

Car hire desks are located in the Central Area between Terminals 1 and 2. Here you’ll find companies including Avis, Hertz, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Sixt and Thrifty. Taxis can also be found outside both terminal buildings.

What to Expect in Munich

Prices in Munich are generally a little more expensive than in Berlin. If you’re dining out, you can expect to pay around €50.00 for a mid-range meal for two and €3.50 for a bottle of beer. Supermarket shopping is a bit pricier in Munich, public transport travel in the two cities costs more or less the same, and taxi travel is actually a little cheaper here than in Berlin.

Temperatures in Munich are more or less the same as you’d experience in Berlin; summer highs in the mid-twenties and winter lows dropping just below freezing. Whilst in Berlin you’re likely to get light but consistent rain throughout the year, Munich experiences infrequent, heavy rainfall.
