Practical Information
British citizens don't need a visa to visit Canada for short trips. If you're going on a long-term visit, have a criminal record, or are planning to work in Canada, we recommend speaking to the Canadian High Commission. If you're flying into Canada you will need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) through the Canadian Government Website. If you have dual Canadian nationality you won't need to, although it's recommended that you enter the country with your Canadian passport.
When you fly with a combination of airlines (for example United and Expressjet Airlines) make sure you give yourself plenty of time to make the connection. Remember you'll need to collect your baggage, go through customs, check-in for the second flight and go through airport security. If the first leg of your journey is delayed you might not have much recourse with the other airline. Make sure your travel insurance covers this.
