Terminal Information – Departing
This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.
Virgin Atlantic fly to Atlanta from Manchester Airport's Terminal 2. The check-in area is on the ground floor. Security and departures are upstairs. Shops in this terminal are quite functional. There's a Boots for last-minute essentials, a WH Smith if you need something juicy to read in-flight, and a Dixon's Travel if you forgot to pack an adapter. There's also a Travelex for sorting out travel money, and a Biza Duty Free. As you're travelling outside the EU you can enjoy a great tax-free discount on little luxuries. There are two coffee shops in the departure lounge: Caffe Nero and Broderick's. Hungry travellers can grab a bite in Burger King, Frankie & Benny's or the Observatory Bar. There's an executive lounge operated by Escape, offering free Wi-Fi, complimentary refreshments, and a peaceful seating area. Entry prices start at £18.49*.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Flights from Manchester arrive in the International Terminal. Private transfers, taxis and some shuttle services all leave from this terminal. If you would prefer to take public transport you need to take the free shuttle bus to the Domestic Terminal. Practical Information
We recommend arriving at the airport at least two hours before your flight is scheduled to depart. You will need a valid passport to travel to the USA. Most British citizens don't need a visa to enter the USA for 90 days or less. In some cases the visa waiver doesn't apply: for example if you've ever been arrested, have travelled to certain Middle Eastern countries since 2011, or your passport doesn't have an e-chip. You don't need a visa if you're just popping over for a business meeting, but if you're planning to work in the USA you will need a visa. If in doubt, speak to the USA embassy. If you are eligible for the visa waiver, you need to fill in an ESTA online 72 hours before you travel. Be prepared to prove you have enough money to sustain yourself during your trip: even if you're planning to stay with friends or family.
