Terminal Information – Departing

This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.

Flights to Beijing leave from terminal 1. As well as all of the usual duty free and souvenir shops, the departure lounge also has a good range of fashion and tech stores. There are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat too, from Asian classics to Western chains. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport. If you're looking for somewhere more comfortable to await your boarding call, you can check in to one of the executive lounges. There are two Plaza Premium lounges in terminal 1 (one in the east of the terminal and one in the west).

Terminal Information – Arriving

There's an Express train from the airport to Sanyuanqiao Station and Dongzhimen Station. One way tickets cost ¥25 (about £2.65) and the trip into town takes between 20-30 minutes. The train stops at terminals 2 and 3. Shuttle buses are also available, and are cheaper at ¥16* (around £1.70). There are numerous buses with different routes, so we recommend checking which one goes nearest your accommodation before you arrive. If you want to take a taxi into town, make sure you join the official taxi queue on the ground floor and avoid the touts. You should expect to pay ¥70-120 (about £7.40-12.70) for a trip into the city centre. It's a good idea to have a note of your hotel name in Chinese characters for the driver. Car hire is also available from the airport if you'd rather drive yourself.

Practical Information

You need a passport with at least six months validity to enter China from Hong Kong. British nationals also need to apply for a visa, which costs £85*. You should apply for your Chinese visa at least one month in advance.

What to expect in Beijing

There's no time difference between Hong Kong and Beijing. The currency in Beijing is the Chinese renminbi (¥). Beijing is colder than Hong Kong. Temperatures in July (the hottest month) are the most pleasant at an average of 26°C. January is the coldest month, with temperatures dipping to minus 4°C. The best time to visit is autumn.
