Aeromexico, Aeromexico Connect, Interjet, Magnicharters, VivaAerobus and Volaris all fly direct from Cancun to Mexico City. This is the airport's busiest route so we recommend booking your flight early.
Terminal Information – Departing
This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.
Most flights to Mexico City depart from terminal 2. Magnicharters and Viva Aerobus fly from terminal 1, while Interjet sometimes depart from terminal 3.
Cancun Airport's departure lounges have a good selection of shops and places to eat. These include iconic diners like Hard Rock Cafe and Sr. Frogs as well as designer shops selling clothing, sunglasses and jewellery. There are also airport favourites like duty free stores, pharmacy and newsagents. The airport also has a spa, if you need to unwind before your flight west. Terminals 2 and 3 also have business lounges.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Benito Juarez International Airport has two terminals which are connected by light rail and bus. Note that you need a printed boarding pass to use the light rail. Interjet, VivaAerobus, Volaris and Magnicharters usually land at terminal 1 while Aeromexico and Aeromexico Connect usually land at terminal 2.
Public transport is available from both terminals. Terminal 1 is next to the Terminal Aerea subway station, which is on line 5 of the subway. Terminal 2 also has a station, Pantitlan, which is about 700m walk away. Lines serving this station are 1, 5, 9 and A. There's also a Metrobus which runs from both terminals to the city centre. Taxis are available from outside the airport and are a cheap, safe and easy option. Remember to ask for an estimated price before hopping in.
Practical Information
Although you don't need your passport to fly domestic, it's likely that you'll be asked to show some photographic identification: either when you check in or before boarding. We recommend British citizens use their passports.
Try to arrive at the airport no later than one hour before departure. Always check with your airline for information on checking in.
What to expect in Mexico City
Mexico City has a cooler climate than Cancun. May is the hottest month, with average temperatures of 18°C, while December is the coldest at an average of 13°C. It's drier than Cancun, with three times less rain during the wettest month (September). Mexico City is generally cheaper than Cancun, as prices in the beach town are driven higher by tourism. The exceptions are beer and water, which are more expensive in the capital.
