Terminal Information
Beijing Capital International Airport
Beijing Capital International Airport is located in Shunyi, 32km from Beijing. There are three terminals at the airport; Hong Kong Airlines and China Southern flights depart from Terminal 2 and Air China, Dragonair and Cathay Pacific flights depart from Terminal 3. It's important to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight to Hong Kong is scheduled to depart, there can be up to a 30 minute walk to your gate once you arrive in the departures lounge.
Both terminals have a large selection of shops; designer brands, duty free shops, and gift stores are all available with popular brands such as Bally, Omega, Burberry and DAKS. For food and drink you will find KFC, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Chinese and Asian restaurants and the Comfort Garden Tea House in Terminal 2. Terminal 3 has all those and more including Burger King, Costa Coffee, Mogi Coffee, Haagen Dazs and Kissn Bake.

Hong Kong International Airport
Hong Kong International Airport is on the island of Chek Lap Kok, 35km from Central Downtown Hong Kong. There are two terminals at Hong Kong Airport, all flights from Beijing to Hong Kong arrive at Terminal 1. Terminal 1 is one of the world's largest airport terminals, the Arrivals Hall is located on Level 5.
There are a number of onward travel options from Hong Kong Airport including trains, buses, taxis and car hire The quickest route to Central is via train, the Airport Express Train service has a journey time of 24 minutes and runs every 10 minutes. A single ticket is 100 HK$.
Taxis are available from the airport's taxi station, it will cost around 295HK$ to reach Central and will take around 40 minutes.
What to expect in Hong Kong
Hong Kong's humid subtropical climate results in significantly warmer temperatures than Beijing especially during winter where average temperatures are around 16oc, compared to the colder –3oc in Beijing. Summer sees both cities having average temperatures around 28oc but this is monsoon season for Hong Kong so expect high levels of rainfall.
The currency is Hong Kong is the Hong Kong Dollar. You will find Hong Kong to be significantly more expensive than Beijing, with most aspects of your trip costing at least double what you would be paying in Beijing. A three course meal for two will cost around 350 HK$, compared to 175 HK$ in Beiking, and its one of the world's most expensive cities to get a beer, beaten only by Geneva.
