Terminal Information – Arriving
Schiphol Airport is absolutely massive. It doesn't really matter which terminal you land at, however, as everyone ends up in the same place: Schiphol Plaza, the huge arrivals area. The taxi rank, train station and bus stops are well signposted so you shouldn't have much trouble finding your way into the city. The train is by far the quickest way to reach Amsterdam. The station is located just underneath the airports. If you prefer taxis you'll be spending a bit more, alternatively you can hire a car at the airport

What to expect in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is by no means a den of iniquity. Outside of the red light district the streets are generally quiet and peaceful. Remember to be respectful. While Amsterdam is renowned for its relaxed attitude towards soft drugs, possession is still very much illegal. You can face jail if you're caught buying drugs on the street. The only place where possession, purchase, and use is tolerated is in the coffee shops.
