Jet2, EasyJet and Aer Lingus all provide direct flights from Belfast to Faro. Jet2 and EasyJet flights depart from Belfast International Airport whilst Aer Lingus flights depart from Belfast City Airport.
Terminal Information
Belfast International Airport
Belfast International Airport is situated 13 miles northwest of Belfast city centre. The airport advises passengers on European flights to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled flight departure time. Jet2 passengers can check in at the airport however to streamline your check in process you should use the online check in facilities where possible. Easyjet passengers must check-in online at least 2 hours before their flight.
There is free Wi-Fi throughout the airport for up to two hours and lots of facilities in the departures lounge. Shops include Superdrug, WHSmith and Aelia duty free whilst eating and drinking options include The Lagan Bar, Burger King and The Strangford Kitchen & Grill.
A premium lounge is available for a fee. Open to passengers travelling with any airline and on any ticket, The Business Lounge at Birmingham International Airport provides passengers with complimentary drinks and snacks and a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle of the main departures lounge.
Belfast City Airport
Belfast City Airport is situated three miles from Belfast city centre. Passengers on European flights are advised to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled flight departure time. Aer Lingus flights can check in on arrival or do so in advance online.
Once you’re through security and into the departures lounge, you’ll find a good selection of shops, cafés and restaurants. Retail outlets include Boots, WHSmith and a duty free store. There’s a good variety of food and drink outlets including Costa Coffee, Harvest Market Café and the Bushmills pub.
Belfast City Airport also has a premium lounge. The Aspire Lounge can be booked in advance or paid for on the day. It offers complimentary drinks, snacks and newspapers.
Faro Airport
Faro Airport is situated four kilometres west of Faro city centre. It’s a small airport with just one terminal so it’s easy to find your way around.
In the arrivals hall, there’s a cash machine, a number of your operators, a pharmacy and a tourist information office. The airport’s car hire companies are also based here in the arrivals hall. There are offices for Avis, Hertz, Goldcar, Enterprise and Europcar.
If you choose to take public transport from the airport to your final destination, the only real option is to hop on a local bus. Buses leave the airport and travel to the city centre between 5am and 11pm every day. Alternatively, there’s a taxi rank right outside the terminal building with taxis available 24 hours a day. Taxis will charge a supplement if you have extra-large baggage and if you travel on any toll roads.
What to Expect in Faro
Faro enjoys warm weather for the majority of the year. Average summer temperatures reach the high twenties and often creep even higher. Even during the winter you can expect temperature highs of around 16°c or 17°c.
Whilst prices in tourist resorts can be quite high, the average cost of living in Faro is much cheaper than in Belfast. A mid-range three course meal for two will set you back just €30.00, a litre of beer costs just €1.20 and a one way ticket on public transport is priced at around €2.10.
