Inverness Airport

This information is correct as of October 2016.

Inverness Airport is the gateway to the Scottish highlands. The airport is owned by HIAL (Highlands and Islands Airports Limited). It's right next to the Highland Aviation Museum, which is open to the public on weekends and bank holidays and makes a nice little diversion before catching your plane. Most of the flights from Inverness Airport are domestic, and the most popular destinations are London and Bristol. There are a couple of international routes too, with regular flights to Amsterdam, Geneva and Dublin.

Getting to & from the Airport

Driving hide

It takes just under 20 minutes to drive to the city centre from the airport. The airport is located just off the A96, an offshoot of the A9 which runs all the way from Falkirk in Central Scotland to Thurso on the very north coast. Europcar and Avis both offer car hire from Inverness Airport.

Trains hide

It takes about 15 minutes by taxi to get from Inverness Airport to Inverness train station. You can also take the bus: just hop off at Academy Street (by the Eastgate Shopping Centre). Inverness train station has services to lots of towns and villages in the Highlands, as well as longer distance routes to other Scottish cities Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Buses hide

Public transport isn't very frequent in the Scottish highlands. The Stagecoach Jet Bus service runs between the airport and Inverness city centre. It also offers services to Forres, Nairn and Elgin. The buses normally depart the airport every half an hour, but it's worth checking with Stagecoach for up to date timetable information.

Taxi hide

There's a taxi rank outside the terminal, operated by Inverness Taxis. It takes about 15-20 minutes to reach the city centre. Cabs are metered, but you can expect to pay about £15 for the journey. You can book your taxi in advance by contacting the company directly. It's also possible to book private transfers: compare with us to find the best prices.
