Inverness means “on the River Ness”. I loved taking in the view of the river from the castle which is an easy walk from the center of town. Also I loved strolling the river banks and pedestrian bridges

Inverness is a great jumping off point for exploring the Scottish Highlands. From here you can start tours to the Orkney Islands or isle of skye. Inverness itself is lovely. Lovely walks along the river and criss crossing pedestrian bridges.

Beautiful little town that serves as a base for exploring the Highlands. I was really impressed by the number of dining options here — and surprised to learn that most expected reservations for Saturday lunch. When in doubt, book ahead!
