Birmingham Airport offers a fantastic range of shops, restaurants and places to relax before boarding. There are bookshops (WH Smith, We Love Booooks Pocket Shop) as well as fashion stores (Superdry, Next, JD Sports). There's an M&S Simply Food if you want to grab something tasty to munch on the 'plane, and a Cloud Spa if you fancy a short pre-flight treatment. There's also a World Duty Free where you can pick up premium spirits, cosmetics and designer accessories.
There's a full range of eating and drinking options, including cafes and snack bars as well as trendy pubs and family-friendly restaurants. You can choose from Frankie & Benny's, All Bar One, Giraffe, Pret, Wetherspoons and more. If you're feeling really fancy you can raise a glass of fizz at the Blanc et Noir champagne bar. Or, if you're feeling wholesome, you can grab a smoothie from Joe & the Juice.
There are two lounges available to Monarch Airlines passengers: the Aspire Lounge and the No.1 Traveller Lounge. You can pay on the door or book your space online at Birmingham Airport's website. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal building.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Gibraltar Airport is only 400m away from the town centre. Once you leave the airport you can easily walk into town. It's also possible to walk into Spain, as the airport sits right beside the border. If you don't want to walk it's easy to find a taxi, or you can pre-arrange car hire at Gibraltar Airport.
Practical Information
Although Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory, you do need a valid passport to visit. It only needs to be valid for the length of your stay. We recommend treating your flight like any short-haul European one and arriving at the airport 90 minutes before departure.
What to expect in Gibraltar
Gibraltar is an hour ahead of Birmingham. The currency is the Gibraltar pound (£), but Bank of England notes are accepted and circulate widely. Generally speaking, Gibraltar is cheaper than Birmingham. One exception is restaurants, where you'll pay about £70* for a three-course meal for two (compared to £47* in Birmingham). The climate in Gibraltar is warm all year round, with average temperatures of 14-15°C from December to February and 24-25°C from June until September. Most tourists arrive during autumn and spring, when the weather is neither too hot nor too cold.
