No airlines currently offer direct flights from Southampton to Nice. Indirect flights are available from Flybe and Air France (via Paris), KLM (via Amsterdam), Flybe and Airberlin (via Dusseldorf) and Flybe and Aer Lingus (via Dublin).

Terminal Information – Departing

Southampton Airport only has one terminal. There's a World Duty Free shop and a WH Smith. If you're hungry you can eat at The Globe Bar & Kitchen, The Olive Tree or Costa. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport for four hours. If you like a bit of peace and quiet you can check into the Priority Lounge. Access costs £15* per person and once inside you can enjoy unlimited Wi-Fi and a range of complimentary snacks and drinks. There are also charge points for giving your phone a boost before boarding.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Most airlines land at terminal 1, but there's a free shuttle between the airport's two terminals. Local bus line 23 stops at terminal 1 and takes about 20 minutes to reach the city centre. More expensive (but faster) express buses leave from both terminals. Nice St Augustin train station is a short walk from the airport, and Velo Bleu hire bikes are available from the airport too. You can drop these off at a bike rack once you arrive in town. There's a taxi rank outside the terminal, if you prefer to avoid public transport.

You need a valid passport to fly from Southampton to Nice. Try to arrive at the airport no later than 90 minutes before your flight is scheduled to depart.

What to expect in Nice

Nice is one hour ahead of Southampton and the currency is the Euro (€). The climate in Nice is a lot warmer than in Southampton. If you visit during July and August you can expect an average temperature of 24°C with highs of 27°C. Winters are mild, with an average temperature of 9°C during January. It rarely drops below 5°C and can often rise as high as 13°C. If you're looking for a cheap holiday, however, you're in the wrong place. Prices in Nice are generally higher than in Southampton. A bottle of beer is about 30% more expensive while a meal in McDonalds is about 25% more expensive than back home.
