Airlines that fly from Prague to Budapest

Czech Airlines, Ural Airlines and Smart Wings all offer direct flights from Prague to Budapest.

Terminal Information

Prague Airport

Prague Airport is home to three terminal buildings. Czech Airlines, Ural Airlines and Smart Wings flights to Budapest all depart from Terminal 2. Check-in desks open two hours before each flight’s scheduled departure time and close 40 minutes before. Self-service check-in and online check-in may also be possible depending on your airline. The airport advises passengers to check with their airline for information on when to arrive at the airport.

In the departures lounge at Terminal 2 you’ll find a range of facilities. There are lots of shopping outlets, including a duty free store, and a range of both low cost and more expensive food and drink options. You can also connect to the airport Wi-Fi service, free of charge for an unlimited time.

Terminal 2 is also home to the ERSTE Premier Lounge. Open every day from 5am to 10pm, the lounge offers a selection of hot and cold drinks, snacks, newspapers and free Wi-Fi access. There are also showers if you need to freshen up and business services including printers, copiers and fax machines. Passengers can pay to enter the lounge at the reception area.

Budapest Airport

Budapest Airport (also known as Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport) is situated to the southeast of Budapest city centre. The airport has just one terminal building (named Terminal 2 as the original terminal has now closed), split into two sections.

In the arrivals hall there are cash machines, a currency exchange, an information desk and car hire desks. Car hire companies based at the airport include Avis, Buchbinder, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt. There’s also Wi-Fi available throughout the airport, free of charge for up to two hours.

Outside, you’ll find stops for local buses, the airport shuttle bus and a taxi rank. Local buses offer a variety of routes around the city and provide connections to both metro and train services close to the airport. If you’re not familiar with the city, the Airport Shuttle Minibus provides the most straightforward public transport option into the city centre. The bus operates 24 hours a day and tickets can be bought from a counter in the arrivals hall.

Practical Information

If you hold a British passport, you do not need a visa to travel between Prague and Budapest. You will, however, need to have a passport valid for the duration of your stay.  

What to Expect in Budapest

Budapest enjoys four distinct seasons throughout the year. Temperatures in the Hungarian city are usually a degree or two warmer than in Prague. Summers in Budapest are warm and pleasant with temperatures often reaching into the low thirties. Winters in both cities can be very cold, however, with heavy snowfall a distinct possibility.

You’ll need to exchange some currency for use in Hungary. Like the Czech Republic, Hungary is part of the EU but not part of the common currency. Instead Hungary continues to use Hungarian Forints rather than the Euro.

Prices in Budapest are very similar to those of Prague. A mid-range meal for two will cost around 7,500.00 Ft (£17.00) a bottle of beer 350.00 Ft (less than £1) and a decent bottle of wine from the supermarket 1,200.00 Ft (around £2.70). Public transport travel in Budapest is a little pricier than in Prague, however.
