Terminal Information – Departing
Newcastle Airport only has one terminal, which makes flying out slightly easier. The departure lounge is small but has a good selection of shops and places to eat. Shop 'til you drop in World Duty Free, Cuba Lily, JD Sports and Accessorize: or just do a bit of window shopping. Remember to pick up some sunscreen from Boots and some bargain poolside reading at WHSmith. If you're hungry you'll have no problem finding somewhere to grab a bite. Whether you're in the mood for a coffee and a pastry (Greggs, Starbucks), a grab 'n' go lunch (Burger King, Upper Crust) or something a bit more substantial (Flying Hippo American Diner, The Cabin) there's something to suit every appetite. The Beer House has an outdoor area for smokers: so there's no excuse not to arrive at the airport early! If you want to kick off your holiday in style you can check into the Aspire Lounge for £21.99* per person. This includes Wi-Fi, complimentary refreshments, and a comfortable place to relax while you wait for your gate to be called.

These go into the city of Faro, where you can find onward transportation to other towns in the region.
Practical Information
You need a valid passport to fly to Faro from Newcastle. For international flights it's best to arrive at the airport two hours before scheduled departure. Give yourself extra time if your flight falls during the school holidays.
What to expect in The Algarve
Portugal is in the same time zone as the UK. The currency is the Euro (€). Most people can speak English, but knowing a few key phrases in Portuguese can go a long way towards ingratiating you with the locals. At least try to learn the words for hello (bom dia), thank you (obrigado) and please (por favor). People love the Algarve for its low prices and gorgeous weather. The high season falls from June to September: this is when the resorts are at their liveliest. The low season benefits from gorgeous weather too, compared to the UK, and is a favoured time of year for walkers and golfers. You might have trouble finding accommodation during the low season, as many places close up for the winter.
