Terminal Information – Departing
Both airlines fly from Terminal 1, Manchester Airport's newest and most modern terminal. The departure lounge has a small but interesting range of shops. You can indulge in tax free shopping at Biza Duty Free, Boux Avenue, Monsoon and Fat Face or just pick up some snacks and magazines at WHSmith. Food options range from quick and easy like Starbucks and Upper Crust to proper sit-down meals in Cafe Balzar and Giraffe. Bar MCR does a great line in cocktails and tapas, while the Grain Loft has self service beer taps and booths where you can plug in your iPod. Every passenger is entitled to an hour of free Wi-Fi. For a bit of added luxury you can check into the Aspire Lounge. Prices start at £19.99* and you get unlimited Wi-Fi access as well as complimentary drinks and snacks. The lounge offers a quiet place to relax before your flight away from the general hustle and bustle. If you like to arrive at the airport a little later you can pre-book Fast-Track security for £3.50*. Although this gives you the chance to skip the queue, you should still give yourself as much time as possible to navigate the airport.
Terminal Information – Arriving
There are two arrival areas at Zurich Airport, both within walking distance of public transport. The fastest way to reach the city centre is by train. The railway station is at level -2 of the shopping centre, just across from the arrival area. Single tickets cost CHF 6.60* (about £4.35). The ticket is valid for an hour, and you can use it on any public transport. There's a tram and bus stop just outside the shopping centre. Tram 10 takes just over 35 minutes to reach central Zurich.
Practical Information
You need a passport to fly from the UK to Switzerland. We recommend arriving at the airport about 90 minutes before your flight is due to depart. Give yourself more time if you're checking in luggage or travelling during the school holidays.
