Airlines that fly from Manchester to Sharm El-Sheikh
Most airlines have cancelled their flights from the UK to Sharm el-Sheikh. Monarch Airlines are offering flights from Manchester to Sharm El-Sheikh starting from November 2016, with flights from Gatwick starting a month earlier in October. Other airlines may reintroduce flights on this route soon.
In the meantime, if you want to fly to Sharm el-Sheikh from Manchester you will need to go indirect. One of the easiest options is to fly from Manchester to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and take a connecting flight from Jeddah to Sharm el-Sheikh.
Terminal Information – Departing
This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.
If you decide to fly via Jeddah you'll be departing from from Terminal 2. Along with travel essentials like ATMs and a bureau de change, you’ll also find plenty of places to shop, eat, and relax before your flight is called. There’s a WH Smith for picking up something to read and a Boots for picking up sunscreen and other supplies that you might need in Sharm el-Sheikh. Attitude, Next, and Lacoste are the perfect places to pick up a last minute holiday outfit. There are also several accessories shops like Accessorize, Claire’s, and Pandora. Caffé Nero and Café Ritazza are ideal for a quick bite to eat before takeoff or a coffee to get you through early morning departures. For larger meals, Manchester’s Terminal 2 has a Frankie & Benny’s, Burger King, and a The Spinning Jenny. WiFi is available throughout the terminal for up to 60 minutes at a time. Those that need WiFi for a longer period of time can purchase a day pass. For those that want to escape the hustle and bustle of the main departure lounge, the Escape Lounge offers a quiet getaway with free WiFi and complimentary food and drink.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Sharm el-Sheikh airport is situated roughly 6.5 miles from the city of Sharm el-Sheikh. Most of the resorts are just ten minutes’ drive from the airport. Taxis are available outside the arrivals hall. While the local government has introduced fixed prices for taxi journeys from the airport to the main resorts, these aren’t always adhered to. You should agree with your driver on the price before leaving the airport. Car hire at Sharm El Sheikh Airport is another option with Hertz, Avis, Budget, Europcar, and Sixt all offering car hire at Sharm el-Sheikh Airport.
Practical Information
As this is an international flight, you should arrive at Manchester Airport at least two hours before your flight is due to depart. British holidaymakers arriving in Sharm el-Sheikh get a free 15 day entry permission stamp. If you're planning to stay for longer you'll need to get a visa: these can be bought at the airport and cost US $25*. Business travellers are advised to apply for their visa in advance.
What to expect in Sharm El-Sheikh
Sharm El-Sheikh is one hour ahead of Manchester. The currency is the Egyptian Pound. This can be withdrawn from cash machines or purchased from a bureau de change, either in Egypt or in the UK. Sharm El-Sheikh is considerably warmer than Manchester so you’re guaranteed to come back with a glowing holiday tan. Temperatures in Sharm El-Sheikh average 18°C in January and 33°C in July compared to Manchester which averages 4°C in January and 16°C in July.
