Terminal Information – Departing
The departure lounge at Luton is small but perfectly formed, with a good range of shops and places to grab a bite to eat. Admire the luxury goods in Aelia Duty Free, browse designer shoes at Kurt Geiger, or just pick up some light reading for the 'plane in WHSmith. There's a Hotel Chocolat too, if you want to treat yourself to something tasty. Food options range from quick and easy like Pret a Manger, Krispy Kreme and Starbucks to relaxing restaurants like Frankie & Benny's and Bar10. There's a Cloud Nails if you're in need of a holiday manicure, and free Wi-Fi throughout the terminal if you just want to get on with your social networking. For a super relaxing pre-flight experience, you can check into the Aspire Lounge which is located upstairs. Inside you'll find plenty of comfortable seats and a fantastic selection of complimentary refreshments.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Arriving passengers all end up in Schiphol Plaza. There's a taxi rank outside. Cabs are metered, but we recommend budgeting €40-50* (about £30-37) for the trip into the city. The car hire desks are just inside. If you fancy a self-driving holiday, remember to compare car hire at Schiphol Airport before you fly. If you'd prefer to take public transport you can choose between the bus and the train. The Airport Bus is the most convenient option if your hotel is in Museumplein or Leidseplein. Tickets cost €5* (about £3.65). If you're going to the city centre, we recommend taking the train. The station is downstairs, and you can buy your ticket in advance from one of the machines. Tickets to Centraal train station cost €3.90* (about £2.75)

What to expect in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is one hour ahead of London and the currency is the Euro (€). Prices in Amsterdam are lower than in London, but not by much. Most people in Amsterdam are able to speak English quite fluently, but there's no harm in packing your Dutch phrasebook. Soft drugs are tolerated in Amsterdam, but only under certain circumstances: notably in coffee shops. Outside of the shops it's as illegal as anywhere else, and people who are caught in possession of drugs can look forward to a fine.
