Airlines that fly from London to Basel
Four airlines fly direct to Basel/Mulhouse from five London Airports. Ryanair fly from Stansted, easyJet fly from Luton and Gatwick, SkyWork Airlines fly from City, and British Airways fly from Heathrow.
Terminal Information – Departing
From City: London's business orientated airport has a few luxury shops, as well as some coffee bars and a restaurant. The airport has a silent policy, so keep an eye on the screen to find out when your fight is boarding.
From Gatwick: flights to Basel leave from the North Terminal. If you take the train to the airport, you'll need to hop on the inter-terminal shuttle before going through security. The North Terminal feels like a small shopping mall, with a food court on the upper level and a good range of fashion and duty free stores on the lower. We recommend heading for your gate as soon as it's called, as some are at least ten minutes walk away from the main shopping area.
From Heathrow: flights to Basel depart from Terminal 5. The airport has its own stop on the tube and train, so double-check your ticket before setting off for the airport. High-fashion boutiques and gourmet restaurants abound in T5, but there are some regularly priced shops too.
From Luton: Luton Airport has one terminal with a good range of places to shop, eat and relax. Treat yourself to a manicure at Cloud Nails, pick up some in-flight reading at WH Smith, or grab a sugary treat at Krispy Kreme.
From Stansted: There's only one terminal at Stansted, too. Most of the shops and restaurants are clustered in a central concourse. There are high-street chains like Giraffe and Itsu as well as a restaurant owned by celebrity chef James Martin. Shops include World Duty Free and The Body Shop.
Terminal Information – Arriving
The airport has two exits: one onto French soil and another onto Swiss soil. If you're heading into Basel but go through French customs you can take the no.11 bus to the train station in St Louis and get the train into Basel from there. If you go through Swiss customs you can take bus no. 50 direct to the train station. Some hotels in Basel offer free bus transport from the airport when you show your reservation. If yours doesn't you can buy a two-zone ticket for CHF 3.80* (about £2.75).
Practical Information
We recommend arriving at the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight departure time. You need a valid passport to fly to Switzerland from the UK.
